Batter’s Best

Sticky fingers grip the bowl,

the whisk swirling through the mix

coughing powdered flour up

as the batter becomes thick.

Baking tray set and waiting,

a dollop needed per case.

Reluctant to fall from spoon,

batter lingers, firm in place.

I steal a sneak indulgence,

a pure moment of heaven,

and as the golden goo melts

I sport a joyous expression.

Sweet, vanilla perfection,

Yet still only halfway done.

The tray goes into the oven

but for me the batter won.
