Life in the Jury’s Hands

“Will the defendant please rise.”

A long and arduous trial,

freedom the ultimate prize.

There’s naught but one mans denial.

Evidence circumstantial,

the tricksters try for mistrial.

Still, his fate is debatable.

Can reasonable doubt withstand?

Is guilt inescapable?

His life in the Jury’s hands.

The time comes, the defense sighs,

A Judge nay asks, but commands;

“Will the defendant please rise.”
