Turquoise

Worn

by me,

all can see

the turquoise gem

mixing blue of the sea

with green of the earth. Don’t tell them

that this once rare and most valuable gem,

despite its elegance, is a treated stone torn

from synthetics, its value to condemn.

No eloquence from me to them

could get them to agree

to take this gem

that they see,

to be

worn.

  1. This is for a Poem a Day competition where I could choose from three prompts. Instead I decided to find a way to incorporate all three.

It had to be about turquoise, include the words elegance and eloquence and had to be a Diatelle poem which is:

The poem has 15 lines and is fashioned like a diamond.

    The syllable structure is 1/2/3/4/6/8/10/12/10/8/6/4/3/2/1

    The rhyme scheme is a,b,b,c,b,c,c,a,c,c,b,c,b,b,a

    The poem should be centered
